Praised and lauded for his original, vital, entrancing novels, Joyce is just as compelling in shorter works. Not that he writes many short stories. (Understandable. He does have to spend time on those novels.) What's more, the stories he writes are usually published in England, rather than the states. For many readers, this will be all new material. Although Joyce tends to concern himself with very human relationships this, by no means, limits his diversity of style or subject matter. He is, in fact, both unpredictable and versatile -- slipping off into SF or into the starving, frozen city of Leningrad under siege or to the dazzling sun of a small Greek island. Always intelligent, often profound, these are stories that make you think more deeply, and more sometimes more strangely than you have before. Graham Joyce weaves the sort of dreams that change the waking world.
